Oreo Cheesecake

This Oreo Cheesecake is an Oreo lovers dream dessert!! Or, perhaps, it is a cheesecake lovers dream come true. Either way, this recipe delivers the best of both worlds. The Oreos add a great crunchy texture that compliments the thick smooth creaminess of the cheesecake.

Giving credit for this amazing Oreo Cheesecake

This recipe comes from http://delish.com and it is referred to as Oreogasmic! We tend to agree! This is a cookie lovers version of death by chocolate but only with Oreos! You have been warned, this is a very rich dessert.

This Cheesecake is not your quick make right before dinner recipe.

Be forewarned, this is a time consuming (but so well worth every crumb!) recipe that has several steps involved. This is a plan ahead type of deal. Keep in mind that the pie crust must be made separate and then the filling made. Don’t forget to leave room for the decorating of this masterpiece at the end.

The cooking and cooling is where most of the time spent on this recipe comes from. That, in itself, is not too bad, for you can do other things besides hovering over the cheesecake. Unless you just want to then, by all means, have fun.

Hide the Oreos or you will have a naked cheesecake!!

Important Tip: make sure to plan on hiding the Oreos well until it is time to make the recipe. Alas, we did not and some small red headed girl named Rochelle found the stash. Then everyone wanted an Oreo, “Just one won’t make a difference, Please?!?!”

Guess what? Those “just one” moments added up to a BIG difference! Just one, they say, our aching butts! Nothing like prep time only to realize that no, indeed you do not have all your supplies on hand.

Then someone gets to make the mad dash to the store for Oreos!! Not that we have ever had to do that! Ok, we admit it, we did. Learn from our mistakes, people, and spare yourselves the pain and suffering of that last minute store trip!

Overview of the making this Oreo Cheesecake.

First, the the prep time for this Oreo Cheesecake is about 35-40 minutes. It goes by pretty quick. It is a kid friendly recipe for the prepping of the Oreos. The Oreos for the crust must be crushed well. The kids love this part! Heck, who are we kidding? We had fun too!

Just slap the Oreos in a resealable bag and let the kiddos pound away at them until the cookies are all smushed:)

Tip: if you’re having a really exuberant person, like a kid, crush the cookies, then double bag …for the cookies’ sake.

Second, the actual cooking time of this Oreo Cheesecake is 1 hour 30 minutes. No, you don’t have to bake the crust ahead of time either. Just mix up and pour the batter over the crust then put it in the oven.

We did not put really fine Oreo bits into the batter but chose to add coarse pieces of the cookie in instead. Therefore, our baked version came out much lighter in appearance.

Lastly, the whole cooling process for this Oreo Cheesecake is about 5 hours at the very least. Remember, this is a very dense cheesecake so it takes a long time to cool down. Especially if you plan to decorate.

We noticed that the top of the cheesecake did crack but the recipe did not call for a water bath. This where the decorating comes in at the end!

Tip: For Best results, keep a tall glass of hot water to dip the knife in when cutting the cheesecake. Dip it then wipe clean in between each cut, for both easier cutting, and prettier slices.

Conclusion of our Oreo Cheesecake Review

While this recipe is long and somewhat time consuming, it is not overly difficult. However, the directions seemed to be missing a step, as far as adding in the coarsely chopped cookies to the cheesecake mixture. We normally never edit the original recipe, but in this case, it seemed better to add this step in to avoid confusion.

We also noticed a comment on the original recipe, about a discrepancy in the measurement of the vanilla. It is written for a tablespoon, but in the video, it shows a teaspoon being used. We had not viewed the video prior to making this Oreo Cheesecake, and used the tablespoon, and honestly, would never have noticed!

Everyone got to participate (at least in the Oreo crushing) and this made for good bonding time between family. The end result is almost too picture perfect to dare cut into.

Rest assured, that did not stop us! We loved the richness and texture of this dessert! This is a good recipe for holidays or special get togethers. The only drawback is that this cheesecake with Oreos is not a Diabetic friendly dessert. Sorry Dad.

We know it is not the same but if you are looking for a good Diabetic friendly dessert then try this Blueberry Ricotta Cake recipe that we also reviewed.

We are still experimenting with using Splenda Stevia for healthier desserts so we will keep you posted!

Overall, we love this recipe and the end results. We hope you give it a try and let us know how it turned out for you!

This Oreo Cheesecake offers the best of Oreos and Cheesecake combined into the perfect texture of crunchy Oreos and rich cheesecake.

Ingredients

  • FOR THE CRUST
    24 Oreo cookies
    4 tbsp. butter, melted
    1/8 tsp. Pinch kosher salt
    FOR THE CHEESECAKE
4 (8-oz.) blocks cream cheese, softened
    1 1/4 c. sugar
    3 large eggs
    1/4 c. sour cream
    2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
    1 tbsp. pure vanilla extract
    1/2 tsp. kosher salt
    15 Oreo cookies, coarsely chopped
    FOR TOPPING
    Whipped topping
    6 Oreos, cut in half
    6 Oreos, crushed

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 325° and grease an 8″ or 9″ springform pan with cooking spray. Make crust: In a large resealable plastic bag or a food processor, crush Oreos until fine crumbs form. Transfer to a bowl and pour in melted butter. Add salt and stir until crumbs are completely coated and moist. Press Oreo mixture into pan and 1/3 of the way up the sides, packing tightly.
  • Make cheesecake: In a large bowl using a hand mixer beat cream cheese and sugar together until no lumps remain. Add eggs, one at a time, then stir in sour cream and vanilla. Add flour and salt and beat until just combined. Stir in the coarsely chopped cookies. Pour mixture over crust.
  • Wrap bottom of pan in aluminum foil and place on a large baking sheet. Bake until center of cheesecake only slightly jiggles, about 1 hour 30 minutes. Turn off heat, prop open oven door, and let cheesecake cool in oven, 1 hour.
  • Remove foil and refrigerate cheesecake at least 5 hours and up to overnight.
  • Pipe whipped topping around border of cheesecake and place an Oreo half between each dollop. Sprinkle crushed Oreos in center before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • We normally never edit any recipes we review, however, the directions were missing the part about adding in the coarsely chopped cookies to the cheesecake batter.
