Baked Apple Pie with Stevia

This Baked Apple Pie is made with Splenda Stevia! How better to greet Fall then have Apple pie? How about an apple pie that is Diabetic friendly? Talk about a win-win situation here! The best part is you can’t even tell the difference!

Why make a Baked Apple Pie with Stevia?

We are always on the look out for recipes that are sugar free, both for our Dad, as well as our followers who are diabetic. We found that Splenda Stevia tastes just as good as any “regular” recipe. Splenda Stevia is nearly the same measurement but is much sweeter than sugar.

One tiny glitch with using Splenda Stevia

As mentioned above, you can use Splenda Stevia in baking BUT it is advisable to use some sugar in the mix otherwise your baked goods won’t brown and the texture will be way off.

We found that out the hard way when we experimented with our How To Make The Easiest Fudge Brownies Ever recipe. Boy! Those brownies were not edible! Even in our most desperate hour, we could not choke down one of them to save anyone’s lives!!

Lesson learned, we revised and did mostly the Stevia but added some sugar as well.

Where to go for more information on using Stevia?

There are many great sources online that provide a bountiful and endless supply of information! If your looking for baking or cooking information then go to http://www.splenda.com for great tips and recipes. Another great site is https://www.diabetesselfmanagement.com/nutrition-exercise/meal-planning/baking-and-cooking-with-sugar-substitutes/.

Whether you are Diabetic or just looking for a healthier alternative, there are options for you. Make sure to talk to your doctor about any major diet changes and see what they advise as well.

Back to our Baked Apple Pie!

This pie was super easy to put together, once the apples were peeled. Honestly, to peel an apple by hand is a test of true patience and raw talent! If you can walk away without blood oozing from scraped or cut fingers…or worse, then you did great!

Really, we need to get one of those handy dandy, apple peelers that look like some sort of torture device. But they look like they work. Add https://www.amazon.com/apple-peeler/s?k=apple+peeler to our Christmas wish list!

Ha Ha! Oh well, its fun to look anyhow.

The pie crust is another hurdle depending on the route you take. You can make your own pie crust or buy store bought. Guess which one we did? Yep, we went the store bought route!

Honest, ya’ll, Life gets so busy sometimes and we run out of steam before we even got started. Now, Tanya admits she isn’t the best at pie crust (enter store bought), but baking pies will give us both lots of practice.

As you can see from the picture below, even with the store bought pie crust, we need practice. Tanya got the top crust a tad thin.

Yes, I just threw Tanya under the bus!

It is a little harder to find, but there are Diabetic-friendly and low carb pie crust mixes out there. It appears that it is easier to make a low carb or Diabetic-friendly pie crust than it is to buy. Therefore, until the Morgan Sisters rock at pie crusts (of any kind), we will provide you with a link that looks promising. Here it is:

What type of apples to use for a Baked Apple Pie?

We have several apple trees on our little plot of earth, one of which is a Granny Smith. We love being able to go out and pick fresh apples!

We also used our Granny Smith apples for our Apple Crostata recipe as well. Click on the link to check out that recipe as well.

There are several types of apples you could use but the Granny Smith apple holds well with baking. In other words, it doesn’t dissolve into some slimy gooey puddle!

Other types of apples that are good for baking include the following: Golden Delicious, Honeycrisp, Braeburn, Gala, Jonagold, and Fuji apples. Again, as mentioned above, the Granny Smith apple is what we used.

Wrap up time

We really like our Baked Apple Pie with Stevia recipe. The pie crust was golden brown and flaky and Stevia sweetened apple filling perfect.

Best part is it is something our Dad can enjoy too! There are only 190 calories per slice, 8 servings per pie.

Apple pie is one of our favorites especially with all the holidays drawing near. We hope you enjoy and please drop us a line! We want to hear from you.
